ARIZONA -– The 2024 election is only two weeks away, but Kari Lake has not stopped denying the results of the 2022 and 2020 elections, making clear that she will do anything to get power, including sowing doubt in our elections and undermining Arizonans’ votes.
Lake “just can’t help herself” but “latch on to” election conspiracy theories, despite admitting “I don’t know who exactly stole the election,” and publicly being told by national Republicans to leave election denialism behind, losing in court yet again, and struggling with Arizona voters who are “so sick and tired of Kari Lake’s whining.”
Even as Kari Lake runs for U.S. Senate, she refuses to admit that she lost the 2022 gubernatorial election:
- During an October Arizona PBS interview where Lake was described as “cantankerous, contentious, combative,” she refused to admit that she lost the 2022 gubernatorial race and said “I never want to move on” from her court cases to overturn the 2022 election.
- Earlier this month,, Kari Lake abruptly ended a disastrous interview with NBC News after she refused to answer whether she would certify the 2024 presidential election if she were a U.S. Senator, instead comparing the election to a “soccer game.”
- In a combative interview post-RNC-speech, Lake asked “what is true?” in response to a question about her failed lawsuits in her attempt to overthrow the results of the 2022 election.
- In July, Lake asked the Arizona Supreme Court to “either order a new 2022 gubernatorial election, or ‘proportionally strike 275,000 ballots’” and declare her Governor.
- At a campaign event in June, Kari Lake gave a speech in front of a confederate flag, and spread “baseless accusations of widespread election fraud.” At the event, Lake continued her election denialism, saying, “Of course we did [win the ‘22 gubernatorial election]. They stole our government” and reiterating that she is “trying to get rid of these damn machines that are corrupt.”
- In April, the U.S. Supreme Court “brushed aside” Lake’s effort to ban voting machines, refusing Lake’s request for them to “endorse a conspiracy theory” election denial case that has previously been described as “furthering false narratives,” “baseless,” and “reckless” – and resulted in over $100,000 in sanctions.
Nearly four years later, Lake continues to push conspiracy theories about the 2020 election:
- Kari Lake repeatedly expressed her support for Arizona’s eleven fake electors, even issuing an official statement.
- In February, Lake said, “We’ve had more than that stolen in Arizona as you know, 2020 was a mess. 2022 was a debacle right out in front of our eyes. It was nabbed from us right in front of our eyes.”
- During a March CNN interview, Kari Lake said, “The 2020 election, I think it was a rigged election.”
- In November 2023, Lake said, “Yes, I agree with Steve Bannon, anyone who thinks Joe Biden won 81 million votes does not have a grip on reality.”
