PHOENIX — The Arizona Democratic Party released the following statement after the Party’s Board voted unanimously to support two commonsense legislative efforts (HB 2976 & SB 1522/HB 2701) that strengthen Arizona’s justice system and honor the sovereignty and history of Tribal Nations across the state:

“Arizona Democrats are proud to support legislation that strengthens trust in our institutions and respects the voices of the people. HB 2976 ensures that Justice of the Peace courts have a fair, transparent process when administrative concerns arise and prevents overreach by the appointed Supreme Court that undermines local elected Justices of the Peace authority and accountability to their constituents. 

We are also honored to support SB 1522 and HB 2701, which would permanently display the 22 Tribal Nation flags at the Arizona State Capitol. This legislation is a visible, meaningful recognition of Tribal sovereignty and the timeless connection that these tribal communities have in our state.”
