As unelected billionaire Elon Musk guts Social Security and Medicare, Arizona Republicans stay silent

In the first two months of Congress and Trump’s term, Arizona Republicans have been busy protecting Elon Musk, staying silent about cuts to Medicare, and praising Donald Trump’s Joint Address that advocated for eliminating the CHIPs Act. It’s Friday, so here’s a round-up (corral) of what our Arizona Republicans are up to:
- BUT FIRST: This week, the NRCC told House Republicans, “No more in-person town halls.” Ciscomani’s constituents ask, “Where the hell is Juan Ciscomani?” and David Schweikert’s office is being protested… When will Republicans hold their next town hall? We (and their constituents) are asking!
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01) voted for a budget that wipes away Medicaid for 78,000 people and takes food off the table for nearly 19,000households while calling Elon Musk’s influence in government “wonderful.”
- Rep. Eli Crane (AZ-02) is continuing to abandon his district and spend his time defending Elon Musk in Congress and on Twitter, thanking Musk and Trump for taking on the “administrative state” while Elon Musk lays off public workers, causing Arizonans to lose their jobs and fear for theirSocial Security benefits inflation skyrockets.
- Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05) penned an op-ed praising Trump’s joint address where Donald Trump advocated for getting rid of the CHIPs Act as “inspirational, aspirational, hopeful, visionary, [and] patriotic.” Biggs attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony in his district celebrating 50 new jobs it created in his district despite voting against the bill.
- Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) claims that protecting Medicare is a priority. In the same breath, voting for a budget that wipes away Medicaid for 105,000 people and takes food off the table for nearly 30,000households.
- Rep. Abe Hamadeh (AZ-08) has spent a lot of his first two months in Congress talking about the military and veterans, but has stayed virtually silent on Elon Musk gutting 3,000 jobs at the VA.
- Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09) found himself going viral this week for a line of questioning with Boston Mayor Wu, who told him, “If you wanted to make us safe, pass gun reforms. Stop cutting Medicaid. Stop cutting cancer research. Stop cutting funds for veterans. That is what will make our cities safe.”
