PHOENIX, AZ — Today marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that recognized the constitutional right to abortion and affirmed that health care decisions belong to patients — not politicians.
While that right was later taken away by extremist courts and politicians, Arizona Democrats are continuing the fight to protect reproductive freedom. In Arizona, Governor Katie Hobbs helped repeal an extreme pre-statehood abortion ban that would have criminalized doctors and denied care to women and families across our state.
“On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we honor the generations who fought for reproductive freedom — and we recommit ourselves to protecting it,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chair Charlene Fernandez. “Governor Hobbs helped repeal an outrageous pre-statehood abortion ban, and Democrats will keep fighting to ensure every Arizonan can make their own health care decisions, with dignity and without political interference.”
